We are honored to offer a Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Volusia County at AdventHealth Daytona Beach. If issues arise during delivery, our emergency-trained staff, maternal-fetal specialists and neonatologists are here 24 hours a day for infants who come a little early, or who require special care. Our NICU is specifically designed to protect and promote the developing senses of newborns — even infants born as early as 30 weeks.

We are the only hospital in the area offering private, family-centered NICU rooms to promote privacy and rest. Each NICU room is designed with your family’s safety and comfort in mind, featuring:

  • A playroom for siblings and family
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Medical support for critical care, if needed
  • Mini fridge
  • Overnight accommodations
  • Showers

With a place for your family to rest and our team close by, you can be there for your baby while in NICU care. Parents can also rest assured that they have access to even more nationally recognized NICU care at the Level III NICU at AdventHealth for Children in Orlando, should the need arise.

Katie Caldwell, CNM

Certified Nurse Midwife

Katie Caldwell, DNP, CNM, is a Certified Nurse Midwife. After graduating from the University of Central Florida, Katie received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and she started her nursing career as a high-risk labor and delivery nurse. She went on to complete a Master of Science in Nursing in Nurse Midwifery from the University of Cincinnati, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Chatham University. She believes in supporting patient autonomy and supporting a woman’s birth wishes at all levels of intervention with regards to the safety of the mother and baby.

Pamela Carbiener, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Carbiener is a board-certified physician practicing obstetrics and gynecology for over 20 years. The first half of her career was focused on organized medicine, chairing the OB/GYN departments at Ormond and Halifax, becoming Chief of Staff at Halifax, and eventually serving on the Halifax Board of Commissioners and as a delegate for the Florida Medical Association. She then shifted to community-based organizations, serving on the boards of COPE, Healthy Start, Healthy Communities, the Bert Fish Foundation, The Daytona State College Center for Women and Men, and more.

Dr. Carbiener is most proud of her work in two areas of health care: medical education with the FSU College of Medicine and her mission to maintain prenatal care access for all women.

Meetesh Desai, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Desai attended college and medical school in Miami, Florida, at the University of Miami. He completed his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and was administrative Chief Resident of OB/GYN care at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Desai is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Hussain Esmail-Rawji, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Rawji is an OB/GYN in Volusia County with over 20 years of experience. His office is a full-service practice that provides care for women through all walks of life, from annual checkups to the delivery of your child at The Baby Place® at AdventHealth Fish Memorial. It is our philosophy that medical care should be convenient, comprehensive and affordable. He is committed to providing the highest quality care for his patients.

Patricia Esquivel, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Esquivel is a board-certified obstetrics and gynecology physician. She graduated from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa before completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Florida in Jacksonville. After residency, she stayed on as Staff Physician and Assistant Professor, working both at the University of Florida Health and Orange Park Medical Center. Dr. Esquivel is originally from the Miami area and speaks fluent Spanish.

Ricardo Larrain, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Ricardo Larrain is a board-certified OB/GYN who focuses on providing personalized care for patients. He completed medical school at Penn State University College of Medicine and his residency at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Dr. Larrain delivers at AdventHealth Daytona Beach.

Marilyn Mayne, DO

OB/GYN

Marilyn Mayne, DO, FACOOG, is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians & Gynecologists. Dr. Mayne provides a broad variety of obstetric and gynecologic care, including annual exams, family planning, prenatal and pregnancy services and menopause management.

She earned her medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury before undertaking her obstetrics and gynecology residency training at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She next served in the United States Air Force as a flight commander, Medical Director of obstetrics/gynecology and Major in the Medical Corps based at Misawa Air Base in Japan.

Stephen Pillow, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Steven Pillow is a board-certified OB/GYN with over 30 years of experience. The majority of those years have been spent in Mount Dora caring for the women of Lake County. He has delivered upwards of 6,000 babies and treated countless women throughout his career.

Carine Richard, CNM

Certified Nurse Midwife

Carine Richard, CNM, is a certified nurse midwife. After graduating from the Interfaith Medical Center School of Nursing, Carine received her Bachelor of Science degree, Master of Science degree and Midwifery certification from the SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

A highly experienced clinician, Carine has served as a certified nurse midwife for more than 19 years. She has assisted in several medical mission trips to Haiti. She is committed to providing compassionate maternity care for growing families with expert attention for mothers and babies, from conception to birth and beyond.

Ted Robertson, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Robertson attended college and medical school in Columbus, Ohio, at Ohio State University and completed his residency at Summa Health Center in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Robertson has served our country as a physician in the U.S. Navy since 1999. He has taken care of our troops in the United States, Spain, Iraq and Japan. He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Mamie Rogers, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Mamie M. Rogers is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, with special interests in prenatal care, minimally invasive procedures and adolescent gynecology. Dr. Rogers provides care for women at all stages of life, with services including annual exams, birth control and pregnancy care. After earning her medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Medical University, Dr. Rogers completed her OB/GYN residency training at Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Cecille Tapia-Santiago, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Tapia attended Cornell University and NYU’s medical school in New York. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University of Texas, Southwestern and Parkland hospital. Dr. Tapia is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Zachary Tyser, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Tyser is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and truly enjoys seeing the full spectrum of OB/GYN patients. He has special interests in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, management of endometriosis and other pelvic pain disorders, novel management of uterine fibroids, urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.

Dr. Tyser completed his medical school training at Florida State University after earning his bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology in 2017 at the Palmetto Health/University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.

Sergio Vignali, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Vignali received his undergraduate and medical degree from The Universidad Central of Venezuela in 1994. He completed his residency in general surgery in Venezuela and obstetrics and gynecology at TriHealth Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Vignali is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow with ACOG. He is certified in robotic gynecologic surgery and loves the multiple facets of obstetrical care. He is fluent in Spanish and Italian.

Maria Novoa Villaviceno, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Novoa graduated in 2014 from Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Ecuador in Quito, Ecuador, with a Doctor of Medicine degree. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, FL. When not caring for patients, Dr. Novoa enjoys traveling and rescuing dogs.

John White, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. John A. White is a board-certified OB/GYN who provides complete prenatal care and delivery, along with gynecology services with more than 40 years of experience. He graduated from West Virginia University School of Medicine and completed his residency at University of Florida Health Shands. He delivers at AdventHealth Daytona Beach.
